Good morning or afternoon to all my students! This is Mrs. Oliver with a few words of wisdom...
Everybody wants to be happy. We find happiness in a piece of candy, a video game, and new clothes. These things give us a quick jolt of happiness, but here’s the deal: That kind of happiness fades. Once the candy is eaten or we’ve leveled-up in a video game, we’re off looking for more happiness. But reading a good book can give us the kind of happiness that lasts a long time. Reading has a big payoff because people who read books can become smarter, kinder, less selfish, and more creative than those who don’t.
Someone wise once said that "The habit of reading is the only enjoyment which doesn't fade away; it lasts when all other pleasures fade"
This winter I would love to see you, pick up a good book, find a quiet place to be alone, and do something that will give you some long-lasting happiness and make you a better person, too.
With something to think about, this is Mrs. Oliver. Make it a great day . . . or not. The choice is yours.
Writing Prompt: Do you think that making a lifelong habit of reading can help you become a better person and have more happiness in your life? Write a paragraph persuading Mrs. Oliver to believe in your opinion. Include reasons that support and explain your opinion.
After you have written your journal on paper, which you will turn in to the blue folder at the end of class, I want you do go to the discussion or chat bubbles on this page and click on your class hour. Then "publish" your final persuasive piece for this topic in the reply box.
